First Art Series

Wow! I can’t believe it has been seven years since my last post. A lot of beautiful events have happened since then, with the most notable being getting remarried to a wonderful man and having our first child. I’ve been very busy professionally and personally however art has always been in my heart even though I haven’t had much time to dedicate myself to it.  The year 2020 has been historic with a global pandemic, racial reckoning and a very tense presidential election in the US.  Self care has been crucial to staying sane during these times and I have found myself back to creating art. I have decided to challenge myself by creating my very first art series! Since I work from home full time as an accountant, mama and wifey, my art time consists of about 1 hour a few times a week late at night so this series has taken me much longer than most artists.  In these series I’m using acrylic on square wood panels, which is new for me. I’m again inspired by the beauty of nature and the flowers in spring (I started this series back in March). My flower muses were either beauties I’ve met in my past travels or from my own back yard.  I’ve also been having a lot of fun experimenting with modern monotone color lines.  I’m super proud of my very first little art series of ten pieces and I hope everyone enjoys it.

Delicate

Continuing with my exotic theme of tropical flowers and animals as well as my quest to grow as an artist by perusing a new medium and portraits, I have created the below painting.  Capturing emotion is such a challenge and hope to get better at this with practice.  I decided to paint my beautiful niece from a stunning photo I took of this intense stare.  I decided to paint the orchid to represent her beautiful exotic delicate and unique little lady that she is becoming. Hope everyone enjoys it.

Peacock Dance

I love peacocks therefore I just had to paint one in watercolor - the new medium I'm trying to conquer.  I decided to paint a peacock I've painted in the past in oil back in 2011 but I believe this one came out a little bit better :)

Color Punch

Attempting to brighten up my place as well as to try something new and different, I created the below colorful abstract acrylic painting.  I love all colors and choosing the right colors to make this go well together was a challenge.  I changed the blue background several times but finally got the right color balance.  Hope to enjoy this for a while, now to get matching home accents :)

Flourish

Finally, after a few months I'm making a new posting!

I think portraits are the most difficult things to draw/paint, not only because of its complexity but it's also very difficult to capture emotion.  Inspired by other fellow artists I decided to try new art mediums, pencils/color pencils/inks and water colors, after failing terribly at painting a portrait with acrylic.  I first started drawing something that has been done before in my family, my grandmother.

Then I decided to draw my niece from a picture I had taken of her previously and incorporated a flower to represent how beautifully she's been flourishing as a young lady.  Hope everyone enjoys it.

Mustard Door

I just love doors, specially colorful doors.  I painted a mustard door we found in Taormina, Sicily.  I enjoyed painting this and I think I'm going to continue to paint doors :)  Acrylic on 8x10 canvas.

Peacock under the Tree

Inspired by my trip to flamingo gardens in Davie, Fl, I painted my third peacock.  This one is from my photograph below,  I thought it was so cool how the peacock was hanging out under the tree that I painted him.  This is oil on 18x24 inch canvas.

Flamingo painting

I decided to paint a flamingo in acrylic after my pelican painting turned out to be such a success but I hate it.  It's so hard to paint water.  I think I'll try painting another flamingo with oil before I give up painting water.

Little lady

Got inspired to paint this little lady I met while vacationing in Maryland this holiday.  She is a quite beautiful little cardinal and since I couldn't take a good picture of her I decided to paint her. This is an oil on canvas painting.  Hope you like it!

Second Peacock Painting

After visiting the Magnolia plantation a couple of weeks ago and taking great pictures of their resident peacocks, I got inspired to paint one of them from the photo below. I love the royal blue color of the bird and decided to add more royal colors to my oil painting, purple and gold. I also decided to make the painting in a smaller size of 11 x 14 because I thought it look great with a thick gold frame around it. So what do you think? Who wants it???

Original Name Painting

My very first painting back in 2005 was something I came up with to illustrate my name... like a hidden mosaic message... Since then I've made a couple of name paintings for my beautiful nieces and my best friend Marla... I like creating interesting painting with names.
